Your bedroom should be a peaceful refuge that creates an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and sleeping. If your bedroom is more chaotic than oasis-like, it may be time to transform your bedroom into your own paradise. Following are tips for turning your bedroom into a restful retreat:
Remove the clutter. Are you visually overwhelmed upon entering your bedroom? Being visually overwhelmed could be the result of an overly decorated wall, too many knick knacks overtaking the room, or several piles of dirty laundry on the floor. An overstuffed room makes a room appear small and confining. Do some basic organizing and store items out of sight (but don’t just stuff things under the bed).
Make it purposeful. Our homes have become as crowded as our lives. Bedrooms often double as home offices. If this holds true in your case, move the desk and computer out of your bedroom if at all possible. Having a home office in your bedroom detracts from its purpose of serving as your refuge. If you are unable to find a better location for your home office items, try to position the computer so it’s not the first thing you see when you enter the room or the last thing you see before you close your eyes.
Decorate lightly. Decorate your bedroom with colors, textures and images you find meaningful and relaxing. Create a focal point, such as a grand bed or a wall mural with a tropical or garden theme.
Splurge on linens. Find a bedspread or comforter you like since you’ll see it every time you pass through your bedroom. Buy linens that appeal to your sense of touch. Good linens can make a simple bedroom feel luxurious.
Use these tips to transform your chaotic bedroom into a tranquil oasis for relaxation and sleep.
